Pregnancy Calendar – Week12
Week 12
The fetus is now growing quickly, its getting bigger, an extra 2 inches this week. The baby’s brain continues to develop at a rapid pace, and its proportionately larger than the body. The baby begins to practice breathing using amniotic fluid to prepare the lungs for breathing air once born.
At the other end, the baby is now getting the hang of pooing! The poo and other waste produced should not linger in the amniotic sac, and so it is transferred to the mother’s system for discharge.
Your uterus is getting larger at a rate of 1 cm per week. Some unfortunate women start to have heart burn at this stage in the pregnancy. The symptoms are a burning sensation that extends from your throat to your breastbone. One way to overcome heartburn other than taking lots of heartburn medicine is to eat smaller meals, avoid fried food, or avoid spicy and fatty foods.
You will now start to show signs of being pregnant, and may start receiving unsolicited advice from well-meaning friends and family. This is often the stage at which women start to announce their pregnancy to friends and family.
